Dear Mr. Speaker,
I can honestly state that I have much empathy for your current situation; a good and reasonable man tied at each wrist to horses running in opposite directions—watching in horror as the slack runs out.
Unfortunately for the American People, you choose to ignore one of the horse teams—none other than the brothers Koch, David and Charles—the unimaginably smart, effective and fabulously wealthy patrons of anarchy, or perhaps we should refer to them as the Koch Lords…of The Flies?
The Koch Brothers Libertarian Agenda, As you are well aware Mr. Speaker,
The current battle over the Government shutdown and the debt-Ceiling increase is nothing more than the Koch brothers achieving their decades-old mission to free themselves from all rules that would impede their profits, no matter the pollution nor environmental destruction they cause. David and Charles are no doubt exceedingly brilliant businessmen and great philanthropists, but they do not represent the great majority of the American People to which you are bound to serve, as you swore an oath to support not only the Constitution, but to well and faithfully discharge the duties of your office.
U.S. Congress Oath of Office
“I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God” (5 U.S.C. §3331).
Do you truly believe that (1) defaulting on existing legal obligations, (2) threatening the United States credit rating (14 amendment), (3) defaulting on T-Bills held by foreign nations, and (4) blocking settled law (ACA), are well and faithfully discharging your duties of office?
Do you truly believe that undermining the Constitution; by failing to regulate foreign commerce and pay the public debt (Art. I Sec. 8) is conduct that upholds your oath of office?
The American People know the answer, ignore them at your own peril! We understand the poor souls known as the Tea Party, as they lack the knowledge, compassion, and desire to do what is best for ALL. The Tea Party are simply afraid of change because they no longer understand the world, and they fear remaining behind (and we’re not talking about the Rapture). Rather than dedicate themselves to knowledge and education, the Tea Party:
- The earth is not 8k thousand years old,
- Anthropogenic global warming is real,
Reject compassion for the less fortunate:
- We are all in the healthcare market, as we all have the potential need for immediate medical care, but we do not all have the potential immediate need for broccoli—as Justice Scalia so clumsily argued,
- Only luck has prevented each one of us from being born on a rock pile in the middle east, raised in a Madrassa, and taught to hate all infidels from a very early age—it was not by choice that we were not!
Profess family and Christian values, but are content to leave bodies along the side of the road, as evidenced by:
- The refusal to raise taxes on the super rich,
- The refusal to make healthcare available to all,
- Voter suppression, particularly for minorities.
Perhaps the Tea Party are more than scared and ignorant little children, but they are clearly not looking out for the best interests of ALL. You however Mr. Speaker, as well as the honorable and unquestionably brilliant Senator Ted Cruz (and his cabal) are much more, and you know better! We can forgive the misguided Tea Party because they are so easily manipulated by propaganda, but we hold you to a higher standard. And you risk cementing a legacy of shame and disgrace!
There remains time to do what is right and save yourself from the black book of history. You are as fortunate as Ebenezer Scrooge, for you have received warning and still have opportunity to save your soul. Look in the mirror and ask, “Just what type of man am I? How do I wish my grandchildren to remember me? How do I wish they portray me in all the biographies and post-mortems that so many will publish in the next decade?”
Time is running out, but there remains time to do what is right, and what you know in your heart is right. Seize the opportunity to change politics and transcend the partisan—we know who the Koch Lords are, just who are you Mr. Speaker?
